History
Macon Arts was founded in 1985 after a Greater Macon Chamber
of Commerce Quality of Life Committee identified the need.
Originally formed
to maintain a community arts calendar, Macon Arts has grown
to become the arts council for Macon, Bibb County and Middle
Georgia.
Macon
Arts serves as an umbrella organization that services more
than 30 arts nonprofit organizations, three fine arts magnet
schools,
the
music and art departments of four colleges and universities
and a burgeoning Downtown Arts District. Through state
funding, Macon
Arts
supports an 15-county region, which includes Bibb, Crawford,
Houston, Macon, Monroe, Peach and Twiggs counties with
a combined population
of more than 400,000. |
